Below you will find a FREE version of my Covered in Scraps Throw Crochet Pattern. The instructions are so easy that you can customize it and make just Granny Squares or Baby Blankets or Full Size Blankets.

US Terminology
The crochet pattern below has instructions for a 32” x 32” panel. Since this is a Scrap Buster, you can add as many rounds as I did or add as many rounds for your desired size.
I used 8 colors of #4 ply Worsted or Aran Weight Yarn in a variety of brands and colors.
Finished Size: 32” x 32”
Materials:
US G or 4.5 mm Crochet Hook
1000-1200 yds of 4 ply Worsted or Aran Weight Yarn
Scissors
Tapestry Needle
Abbreviations/Stitches Used:
ch = chain
dc = double crochet
sl st = slip stitch
sp = space
rep = repeat
Notes:
ch 3 counts as a double crochet
The crochet pattern is worked in the round
Each round will increase by 12 dc
The ch-1 sp of each round will increase by 4
Due to different thicknesses of worsted weight yarn, you may need to go up or down a hook size
Special Notes:
- If you are using Scrap Yarn, remember each brand’s thickness may differ from each other
- For best results, try using all of the same brand or thicknesses of yarn
- It may be a good idea to shape each color change as you go, this helps keep your corners and sides straight
- Blocking your project may be a good idea as well if you are using scrap yarn. See tips below.

Special Stitches:
Beg Corner = (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) all in ch-2 sp
Corner = (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) all in ch-2 sp
Gauge:
US G or 4.5 mm Crochet Hook
4 rounds of pattern = 4”
Gauge Swatch:
The Gauge Swatch will be worked a little differently.
Work R1-R4 of the pattern below for a 4” x 4” square

R1: magic circle, ch 1, *3 dc, ch 2. rep from * 3 more times. sl st in next 3 dc and ch-2 sp to join. (12 dc, 4 ch-2 sp)
R2: (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) all in same ch-2 sp (Beg Corner made), ch 1, *(3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) all in same ch-2 sp. (Corner made), ch 1. rep from * until Beg Corner. sl st in top of ch-3, sl st in next 2 dc, sl st in ch-2 sp to join. 4 corners made. (24 dc, 4 ch-2 sp, 4 ch-1 sp)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Change Color
**Changing Colors Tip: Weave in your ends of yarn as you go**
When you are fastening off your ends, why not try weaving in your ends when you start the next row.
When starting a new color, weave in the end of the color you just fastened off and a new color as you start crocheting your next row.
This also helps to keep your edges straight.
R3: attach yarn with a sl st in ch-2 sp just completed. Beg Corner, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1. *Corner, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1. rep from * around until Beg Corner. sl st in next 3 dc and ch-2 sp to join. (36 dc, 4 ch-2 sp, 8 ch-1 sp)
R4: Beg Corner, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp, ch 1. *Corner, ch 1, 3 dc in next ch-1 sp. rep from * until Beg Corner. sl st in next 3 dc and ch-2 sp to join. (48 dc, 4 ch-2 sp, 12 ch-1 sp)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Change Color
Note: I changed colors every 2 rounds.
R5-R32: Repeat R3-R4 or until you reach your desired size.
Reminders
- ch 3 counts as a double crochet
- each round will increase by 12 dc
- the ch-1 sp of each round will increase by 4
How to Block a Crochet Item Video Tutorial
Blocking helps your item lay flat with straight edges all around.
Suggested ways to Block your item:
- use a spray bottle to dampen your item or slightly steam it.
- Shape your corners and edges.
- Then pin it to a flat surface like a piece of cardboard until it dries.
- Due to the different thickness of yarn, you may need to shape your item as it dries.
