The Best Gift Guide for Creative Souls

My friend Virginia Cooper is sharing with us another helpful article about the Best Gift Guide for Creative Souls.

So many times we find ourselves racking our brains trying to find that perfect gift for our family and friends.  Sometimes when you receive that unexpected gift that they have made themselves you are in awe or so surprised at their creativity.

So, in today’s article Virginia will be sharing with us some helpful tips on what you can get for your creative family and friends when you are stumped as to what to get.

The Best Gift Guide for Creative Souls

Searching for the perfect year-round gifts for creative friends and family members?  This can be a tricky feat to pull off. If you’re not sure what to get, Jo’s Crafty Hook has some great free crochet patterns on her website inspiring your loved ones’ souls.

Arts and crafts

Shopping for someone who likes drawing, painting and papercrafts?  We found some real gems to get the creative juices flowing:

Crochet patterns. If the artistic soul in your life loves to crochet, you can pick up some digital patterns from Jo’s Crafty Hook that can help them put together some truly memorable creations.

  • Grownup coloring book.  Intricate, inspiring, and meditative, adult coloring books offer a sort of therapeutic creative outlet.
  • Brushes? Markers? Both!  These marvelous tools allow artistic creations either in full-color drawings or calligraphic styles.
  • Goodies subscription.  What artist wouldn’t want an assortment of tools to play with?  Even better, engage a subscription service for a new set of goodies to arrive every month.  Try giving a curated selection from ScrawlrBox.
  • Something sketchy.  Anyone who loves to draw needs a good sketchpad.  To help record, develop and execute ideas, try the Cass Art Mixed Media Pad. It’s spiral-bound and acid-free for serious sketching. Available from CassArt.co.

Sew easy

For those who express themselves with fabric and thread, we spotted some spectacular ideas from The Seasoned Homemaker:

  • Measure up.  Anyone who sews needs quilting and sewing rulers.  Look for transparent guides and a grippy surface to assist the sewist when using a rotary cutter.  Try the Omnigrip Non-Slip Quilter’s Ruler from CottonPatch.Co.UK.
  • Pinnable blooms.  Sewers always need pins, but why settle for ordinary pins when you can opt for ones that blossom?  Flower heads make pins easy to find, are heat tolerant and lie flat under your ruler.  Adorable Collins Flat Flower Assorted Pins come in sets of fifty or one hundred from QuiltRoom.Co.UK.
  • Magnetic attraction.  Losing track of pins can be frustrating, especially one ends up with them in your finger or foot.  Help the sewist on your shopping list keep track with a magnetic pin cushion.  The Zirkel Magnetic Pin Organizer holds pins in a chamber and naturally fans them for selection.  Available from Craftsy.com.
  • Fabric.  Of course, no shopping list for a sewist is complete without a reminder to include some fabric!  Reach out to your local retailer to explore colors and textures in person.

Tech-savvy types

For the giftees on your list who enjoy computerized creativity, try these fun options:

  • Modern projector.  Nostalgically designed to remind us of the slide projectors of yesteryear, the ViewSonic M1 Plus allows users to share their photos and videos on a screen or blank wall.  It’s a nifty way to share digital imagery with family and friends.  Available from Amazon.com.
  • 3D Printer.  A desktop-sized 3D printer allows users to take printing to a whole new level. Monoprice Select Mini V2 is a great option for 3D printing beginners. Available from Amazon.com.

Other Great Gifts

Whether you want to amp things up a bit or go for something completely out of the box, consider one of these ideas:

  • Create an art studio. Why not go above and beyond by helping them turn a room in their home into an art studio? You can help them clean out space, paint the walls, refinish the floors and add new light fixtures. Not only will this give them a bright, airy space for their medium, but it could even make a difference in their home’s value.
  • Luxury easel. If your loved one’s easel is a little worse for wear, consider giving them a new, beechwood easel like the Mabef M02 Studio Easel – Double Pole with Crank. This is a great model for large canvases, and you can find it at ArtSupplies.co.

With these diverse options, you are bound to find a great gift for your creative loved ones, whether the medium is fabric-related, paper-oriented, computer-generated or even something local.  Not only will you find something for your loved ones that screams creativity, but you’ll also show your appreciation for how unique they are. Have fun shopping!

Engaging with Entrepreneurship Post COVID

Engaging with Entrepreneurship Post COVID….What??  Take a look at this article and see how women can become an entrepreneur now that COVID has left us to pick up the pieces of our lives.

Has COVID created a void in your life?  Has it caused your whole life to change?  Well, Virginia Cooper of Learn a Living wrote the following article just for women and how they can start “engaging with entrepreneurship Post COVID.”

This post contains affiliate links.  If you make a purchase using these links I may receive compensation (at no added cost to you.)

What does that mean you ask…..keep reading this very informative article and find out how it can be beneficial to you.

When I first read this article by Virginia Cooper, I thought to myself…self “man, I could have really used this information when I first stepped out on my crochet business journey!”

There are still so many helpful tips inside that I can use in the future.  I kind of started my crocheting business backwards, starting a website and praying everything else would fall into place.  Boy, was I wrong.  lol

If the way you live and earn a living has changed since COVID or you want to make a change because of the way COVID has changed you, take a look at the article below that has some amazing advise you can follow to become an entrepreneur yourself.

Engaging with Entrepreneurship Post-COVID

They say that the best entrepreneurial opportunities emerge during times of crisis. Women with entrepreneurial minds may have been stalled during COVID-19, as many lost their jobs or had to return home during the pandemic.

But now it’s time to resume pursuing your dreams and engage in the entrepreneurial venture you’ve always wanted. Let’s break down how you can earn money online with your entrepreneurial ideas in detail.

Getting What You Need to Succeed

For starters, consider what you need for your entrepreneurial goals. Come up with a plan and decide whether you want to:

  • Pursue passive income streams
  • Start a business
  • Run a bunch of side hustles to determine your interests
  • Or something else entirely

Furthermore, set up a home office and buy any supplies you may need for your upcoming entrepreneurial efforts.

Any entrepreneur needs business skills, which is why you might consider going back to school and finishing or acquiring a business degree, marketing degree, or MBA. The right online degree program will give you the tools you need to succeed and run your business profitably for years to come. Plus, an online degree in business will help you develop your business acumen and market smarts: key advantages if you haven’t engaged in entrepreneurship before.

Forming a Business

As you decide on your business idea, be sure to form your business by:

  • Choosing a unique name that isn’t taken by a company in your state
  • Registering your new business with your state
  • Paying any applicable fees

As an entrepreneur, you’ll need to choose the right business structure for your new venture. An LLC or limited liability company is great for minimizing legal liability, enjoying tax advantages, and more. Check your state’s laws regarding LLCs so you file the right paperwork on time and pay the appropriate fees.

The Importance of Marketing

For your entrepreneurial venture to be successful, you’ll also need to market successfully. Marketing is highly important in this day and age, especially in the digital arena.

Effective marketing will involve using:

  • Google ads for target keywords that are related to your target audience
  • Social media marketing so you can engage with prospective customers
  • Other ads, like banner ads, that you can use to draw new traffic to your online store

It may help to hire a graphic designer to design attractive, compelling advertising graphics or a logo for your brand, especially in the earliest days of your business.

Growing Your Entrepreneurial Adventure

As you market your business and sell your products or services, you’ll scale up your company for even greater success. Build a website, secure hosting resources, and keep advertising.

Over time, your brand will gain a great reputation and you’ll acquire new customers more easily. The great thing about entrepreneurship is that success tends to snowball. The longer you stick with it, and the more effort you put into your business, the more lucrative it will become.

COVID-19 might have seemed like a disaster. But it may really be an opportunity for you to stretch your entrepreneurial wings and achieve your dreams. Good luck!

Thanks for reading!

I hope you find some helpful tips here if you are wanting to start your own business.  Yes, changing our lives, becoming a business owner can be rough, but if it something you think you can do …… no one can make that decision but you.

I was updating some of my earlier crochet when I came across the stitch I fell in love with when I was first designing, the Tulip Stitch.  I had some beautiful yarn I bought at a fiber fair that I was chomping at the bit to use, so I used that here with my Jaide Wrap.

Information Needed

I used Custom Yarn by Knitting on the Fringe. (Skein Weight:75g/2.64 oz
Yardage/Meters: 200 meters/217 yards)

Materials:
US G Crochet Hook or 4 mm
217 yards of # 2 Fine Yarn or Sports Weight Yarn
Scissors
Tapestry Needle

Stitches Used/Abbreviations:
dc – double crochet
sc – single crochet
ch – chain
alt ch 2 – alternate chain 2
fsc – foundation single crochet
sk – skip
rem – remaining

Special Stitches:
Shell = (2 dc, ch 2, 1 dc) all in the same stitch.
Foundation Single Crochet – is where you create the starting chain plus a row of single crochet all at one time.

Special Notes:

My yarn was handmade.  With the different weights of 2 Fine Yarn or Sport Weight Yarn it may make your gauge a little different from mine.  You can try going up or down a hook size to meet the gauge.

Video Tutorials:
foundation single crochet – Left Handed
foundation single crochet – Right Handed
alternate chain 2 – Left Handed
alternate chain 2 – Right Handed

Finished Size:  14” x 64”

alt ch 2 counts as the 1st dc
alt ch 2 takes the place of a double crochet and counts as your 1st dc.  It is used to create a cleaner edge.
Row count is a multiple of 3
Due to different yarn types, the gauge may be off.  Try going up or down a hook size to meet gauge.

Gauge:
US G Crochet Hook or 4 mm
18 st x 8 rows = 4”
6 Shells x 8 Rows = 4”

Gauge Swatch:  4” x 4″

The Get Around Face Scrubbies & Washcloths crochet patterns are SO quick and easy to do!  My pattern testers had so many good things to say about them!

Here are some testimonials from my testers:

Kathy Hungerford Paquette:  I enjoyed making the scrubbie and washcloth pattern. It worked up quick and easy.   I used two different colors for mine to match my bathroom.  Kathy was the one who invented the name, Get Around Face Scrubbies and Washcloths Free Crochet Pattern!

Stacy Secoy:  These work up quickly! I think the will make great gifts and sell well at craft fairs!  Thanks for having me test these!

Dina Sengupta:  I make these small ones to supply to an eco friendly store. They will go perfectly with yours to make full set. I will use them to gift.

Cor Chris Desro:  Pattern is great!  Done in 15 minutes at most!  I am going to make 3 colors so I can have them to match.
