Lisa of My Fingers Fly shares her Floral Handbag Crochet Pattern. In addition to crocheting this handbag, Lisa has added a special lining. She also adds lobster claw clasps to add the perfect handle. The flowers add that special touch in the Floral Handbag design.
Angela Ader of Nine Inspired shares her Roxy Retro Circle Bag. The circle bag combines vintage and modern when using the granny square circle design. You can use your scrap yarn as well when crocheting the Roxy Retro Circle Bag.
Ashley Edmonds of Through The Loop Yarn Craft shares her Hampton Handbag. Ashley uses 24/7 cotton yarn from Lion Brand in designing this handbag. Ashley also uses the Herringbone Half Double Crochet stitch to bring definition to her Hampton Handbag.
Ashley Parker of the Loopy Lamb shares her Bobblelicious Bag. As you can tell by the name Ashley uses the Bobble Stitch. In designing her bag, she uses Chunky yarn to make those Bobbles stand out! She also uses a beautiful teal color cotton liner inside of the Bobblelicious Bag.
Whitney Dunning of Pine Tree Crochet shares her Rainbow Sprinkles Handbag. Ashley uses the Wattle Stitch and the Crab Stitch in designing her Rainbow Sprinkles Bag. The handbag is worked in the round and you can use any Red Heart Super Saver varigated yarn in crocheting your own bag.
Agat Rottman-Cassel of Made by Gootie shares her Chevron Bucket Bag. Agat designed this bag for the I Like Crochet magazine. The bag is worked in the round from bottom to top and uses the Ripple Stitch. Agat adds eyelets to the Chevron Bucket Bag for the drawstring to run through.
Lisa has another free crochet pattern on her website for a adorable Zebra Coin Purse. .This adorable pattern can be made in 3 hours. The Zebra Coin Purse is big enough to hold credit cards, money, drivers licenses and more.
Whitney Dunning of Pine Tree Crochet shares another free handbag crochet pattern, the Grab and Go Clutch. This bag uses the Moss Stitch to create the beautiful design. The Grab and Go Clutch uses very little yarn, so you can use those scraps of yarn you have laying around.
My free crochet pattern I am sharing is for my Sharon Bag. I designed this bag for my mom, Sharon, so she could carry around her iPad. In designing my handbag I used Cables/Braids using the Front Post and Back Post Double Crochet. The Sharon Bag is worked in the round going into both sides of your starting chain. There are 2 sizes to choose from, Small and Large.

The Friendship CAL has started! I am so glad you are here with us as we start to share the afghan squares needed to make the Friendship Afghan! Me and 24 other crochet designers are collaborating in the Friendship CAL 2021 hosted by Helen and Sara from Sunflower Cottage Crochet.

What is this, you ask? The Friendship CAL will be a Crochet-A-Long where YOU can take part and crochet afghan squares to make a blanket. On every Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday from now until April 2021, there will be a 9″ x 9″ crochet square pattern released, it could be a free pdf or found free on the designers website. There will be 40 square crochet patterns released from 25 different crochet designers. My Diamonds Square will be featured in February!
On each Wednesday, Friday and Sunday I will post the release of a NEW square crochet pattern. You can sign up to my Newsletter below and receive an email once a week letting you know there have been 3 new squares released, who designed them, and where you can find them. I will also update my website every time there is a new Square released.

What are the Materials needed, you ask? The materials needed are:
3100 yards of 4 ply Worsted Weight Yarn or Aran Yarn for Squares 600 yards of 4 ply Worsted Weight Yarn or Aran Yarn for Joining/Border US Crochet G-J Hooks or 4mm – 6mm Tapestry Needle for Joining Squares Scissors Stitch Markers (optional)
This Friendship CAL is a perfect way for you to crochet a Scrap Busting Blanket. You can use up all of that left over yarn you have lying around from your other crochet projects! What an AWE-some idea, right?!?!

Now that you have all of your squares completed it is time to join your squares and add a border. There are a number of ways for you to join your squares and I have a couple of Video Tutorials that you might find helpful.
The first video show you how to join by sewing your squares together using the Running Stitch.
The second video shows you how to crochet your squares together by using a double crochet join.
After you have joined your squares it is time to choose a border. There are many helpful blog posts on Pinterest and video tutorials on YouTube to choose from. Square 40 – Friday, April 16, 2021 – Circle of Friends Square
Veronika of Blue Star Crochet brings you her Circle of Friends Square, another square that starts out as a circle. The basic crochet stitches are used in creating this lacy design.

Pam of Carroway Crochet brings you a square using the Waffle Stitch. The waffle stitch consists of double crochet and front post double crochet. There are a number of helpful video tutorials on YouTube.

Square 38 – Sunday, April 11, 2021 – Friendship Square
Shannon of The Loophole Fox uses her favorite stitch in the Fellowship Square, the Crossed Double Crochet. If you have never tried this stitch, Shannon provides helpful video tutorial links on her website and inside the pdf pattern.
If you can double crochet, you can definitely do the crossed double crochet! This stitch gives you a lacy look, without being too open and has lots of texture. Square 37 – Friday, April 9, 2021 – Companion Square
Malena of Straight Hooked brings you a square, the Companion Square, that uses the V-Stitch and Double Crochet. All the v-stitch consists of is a dc, ch 1, dc.

Raffaella of Raffamusa Designs designed a the Malachia Granny Square using the basic stitches that created a very textured square. There is a very helpful video tutorial to help you with this square.

Square 35 – Sunday, April 4, 2021 – Communion Square
Bernadine from Me N My Hook brings you a solid granny square called the Communion Square. This square is beginner friendly and Bernadine has provided a very helpful video tutorial.

Square 30 – Wednesday, March 24, 2021 – Rialto Square
Hannah from Han Jan Crochet brings you a square with a lot of texture, the Rialto Square that uses cable stitches. If you have not mastered the cable stitch yet, don’t give up, Hannah has a great video tutorial to help you.
Don’t let this word, cables, throw you off like it did Hannah at first, they are not as scary as the look. The Rialto Square works great as a motif for pillows, table runners, and of course blankets. Find the Rialto Square at Hannah’s website Han Jan Crochet.
Susan of Fosbas Designs brings you a square that has lots of texture by using the Half Double Crochet Cluster Stitch. This is an easy stitch to master, but Susan has made a helpful video tutorial in case you need help.

Square 28 – Friday, March 19, 2021 – Harmony Square
Bernadine of Me N My Hook brings you the Harmony Square. The design starts out as a circle and turns into a hexagon. Bernadine has made a helpful video tutorial in case you are unfamiliar with front post and back post double crochet.
In designing the Harmony Square, Bernadine wanted to see if she could create a shape within a shape. The design reminded her of that early learning toy where you fit the shapes in the holes of a ball. You can find out more about the Harmony Square at Me N My Hook.
Kristine from Ambassador Crochet a square that creates Cables in the round. If you have never tried Cables before, that is ok, Kristine has made a very helpful video tutorial.
The Arianrhod Blanket Square may seem like a funny or weird name, that is because it is a Celtic word. Audrey Friesen of Canoe Mtn Designs brings you her design where it starts out as a circle and ends up a square. The Square for CAL is beginner friendly and uses the basic crochet stitches.

Sarah of Ned and Mimi brings you the Lasting Links Crochet Blanket Square with a unique take on the Jacob’s Ladder stitch. Sarah describes the use of this stitch pattern: “For this square, the “ladder” is worked diagonally rather than vertically! And once all each set of chains has been linked, they are secured with a single crochet stitch – these are links that can’t be undone.” What a fitting description for the Friendship Blanket!

Square 22 – Friday, March 5, 2021 – Sun and Stars Square
Cat of Crochet Cloudberry brings you the Sun and Stars Square. This square uses the Granny Square technique, but starts out as a circle and turns into a square. This square was originally designed as an old Victorian weather picture of the sun and stars.
The Sun and Stars Square crochet pattern is considered Intermediate level so Cat has added helpful picture and video tutorials. You can get the free crochet pattern from Cat’s website Crochet Cloudberry.
Elisabeth from Desamour Designs brings you the Zanmi Crochet Square. Zanmi is a Haitian word for friends and friendship. This is a perfect word to describe the meaning behind our Friendship Blanket Square.

Square 9 – Wednesday, February 3, 2021 – Ara Square
Kristine of Ambassador Crochet wanted to design a square that reminder her of a galaxy of bright stars. So set your sites on the Ara galaxy above as you crochet the Asa Square that starts out as a circle and turns into a square.
You can find a free pattern of the Asa Square at Ambassador Crochet website. Crochet more than one of these squares and surround yourself in your own galaxy of stars.
Sara of Sunflower Cottage Crochet wanted to bring you a square with flair. Each row you will work in the post stitches to create the diagonal look.

Square 7 – Friday, January 29, 2021 – Omatra Square
Bella of Three Fates Creation’s named her square Omatra. Omatra is a Sanskrit word meaning protection. I think protection is fitting because the Friendship Blanket brings so many unique crochet designers from all over the world and what is a blanket for, but protection from the cold.

Square 5 – Sunday, January 24, 2021 – Illusion Square
The illusion square is so bright and colorful, it brings to mind tapestry crochet. The basic stitches used are single crochet, you just can carry your different color yarns with you.

In this post I want to share with you a Unisex crochet design, the Herringbone Beanie and Cowl Set.
In the Herringbone Crochet Set you will find 3 sizes to choose from: Teen, Small & Large Adult. The good thing about this crochet pattern is that it can be customized to fit your style, size, and color! The stitch count is a multiple of 6, so it you want to make a smaller or larger size, you can use the multiple of 6.
As I stated above, the Herringbone Beanie and Cowl Set Crochet Pattern is a Unisex crochet pattern. My husband and I modeled the set, so as you can see it fits men and women. You will find some wonderful versions from my testers of the set at the bottom of this post.

Materials: US Hook I/5.5 mm 100-300 yards of #4 Worsted Weight Yarn Scissors Tapestry Needle
Gauge: US Hook I/5.5 mm
8 HHDC x 6 Rows = 2 inch
Notes: Ch 1 does not count as a stitch
Gauge Swatch: R1: Ch 9, sc in 2nd st and sc in each st across. Ch1 R2: Turn. HHDC in each st across. Ch 1 R3-6: Repeat R2
Abbreviations: CH = Chain SS = Slip Stitch SC = Single Crochet BLO = Back Loop Only HHDC = Herringbone Half Double Crochet SC BLO = Single Crochet in Back Loop Only HDC2TOG = Half Double Crochet 2 Together FHDC = Foundation Half Double Crochet
Special Stitches:
To make the HHDC stitch: 1. Yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook) 2. Pull first loop straight through the second (similar to a slip stitch) 3. Yarn over, pull through two remaining loops on hook.
Special Notes: The stitch count is a multiple of 6 if you need a smaller or larger size. Pattern written for: Teen, Sm Adult, Lg Adult Be sure to count your stitches once and awhile. It is important once you start the decreasing to have the right stitch count.

Brim
R1: Chain 11, SC in the 2nd chain and each ch across. Ch 1 and Turn. 10 SC
R2: sc in 1st st, sc in blo in the next 8 st, and sc in the last st. Ch 1 and Turn. 10 SC
R3: Repeat R2 for a total of 54 (60, 66) Rows
Join Brim: Holding both ends together without twisting, sl together through blo loop of the previous row and foundation row.
Body
R1: Ch 1, work HHDC across the side of each row, sl in 1st HHDC st to join. Ch 1 and Turn. 54 (60, 66)
R2: HHDC in the 1st st and in each st around. Ss in 1st HHDC to join. Ch 1 and Turn. 54 (60, 66)
R3: HHDC in each remaining st around. Ss in 1st HHDC to join. Ch 1 and Turn. 54 (60, 66)
Repeat R2-R3 until hat measures 6 – 6.5” ( 6.5 – 7” or 7 – 7.5”) inches, including the Brim. Move on to Decrease Rows.
Decrease Rows
R1: Ch 1 and Turn. * HHDC in the next 6 (8,9) st, HDC2TOG* Repeat from * to * around. Ss into 1st to join. Ch 1 and Turn. 48 , 54, 60 stitches
R2: *HHDC in the next 5 (7, 8) st, HDC2TOG* Repeat from * to * around. Ss into 1st st join. Ch 1 and Turn. 40 (48, 54) st
R3: HHDC in the next 4 (6, 7) st, HDC2TOG* Repeat from * to * around. Ss into 1st st join. Ch 1 and Turn. 34 (42, 48) st
R4: HHDC in the next 3 (5, 6) st, HDC2TOG* Repeat from * to * around. Ss into 1st st join. 28 (36, 42) st Do not fasten off.
Leave a long tail of 6-10 inches for weaving the top of the hat closed. You will weave the top of the Beanie closed by using your Tapestry Needle.
You will go into the 2 loops created by the dc using the long tail you have left. You will go back and forth weaving the long tail between the 2 loops until you reach the end.
At the end you will pull the long tail tight, closing the top of the Beanie. Pull tight and go into the 1st st and create a knot, tying off the long tail.

Fasten off and weave in ends.
Herring-Bone Cowl
R1: FHDC 14 (16, 18)
Optional: Chain 16 (18, 20) hdc in the 4th chain and each remaining stitch. Turn 14 (16, 18)
R2: Ch 1. HHDC in 1st st and remaining stitches across. Turn 14 (16, 18)
R3: Ch 1. HHDC in 1st st and remaining stitches across. Turn 14 (16, 18)
Body of Scarf
R4: Ch 1. HHDC in 1st st and remaining stitches across. Turn 14 (16, 18)
Repeat R4 until the scarf measures 44” ( 56”, 68”) inches or until your desired length. If you would like to leave it as a Scarf, fasten off and weave in the ends. For the Cowl, do not fasten off, move to the closing of the cowl.
Closing the Cowl
R1: Ch 1 and place HDC in each st across. 14 (16, 18)
Join Ends: Holding both ends together without twisting, slst together through blo loop of the previous row and foundation row.
Fasten off and weave in ends. You are done!

The Summer of Love Tank Top Crochet Pattern is another design I created in recognition of Cancer Awareness Month and the women in my family who were diagnosed with one form of Cancer or another. I am glad to say they all are cancer FREE right now. I am so proud of them and their survival, so I decided to design another crochet pattern called the Summer of Love Tank Top!

R1: Skip 2 st from previous row, ss in next st, ch 4, ldc, ch 2, sc in sc of Shell, ch 2, skip 2 st from previous row, ldc in last 2 st. Turn
R2: ch 3, dc in each st across. (9 dc) Turn
R3: ch 1, sc in same st, ch 3, skip 3 st, Shell in next st, ch 3, sc in last st. Turn
R4: ch 3, ldc in next st, ch 2, sc in heart, ch 2, ldc and dc in last 2 st. Turn
Repeat R2-R4 3 more times for Small and Medium; 4 more times for Large and XLarge; and 5 more times for 2X and 3X. If you need to, add more Rows needed to reach the correct Strap size for You.
Repeat Steps 1-4 3 more times using the same methods mentioned above being sure to place Stitch Markers in the correct positions.

Materials: US Hook H or 5.0 mm 150 yards of MC #4 Worsted Weight Yarn 75 yards of CC #4 Worsted Weight Yarn Scissors Tapestry Needle
Gauge Swatch: Hook U.S. H/5.0 mm 16 DC x 7 Rows = 4”
Abbreviations & Stitches Used: MC = Main Color CC = Contrasting Color Chain 18. R1: DC in 4th ch from Hook Ch Sp = Chain Space and in each st across. Turn (16 DC) St = Stitch R2-R7: Ch 3, dc in each st across. (16 DC) SC = Single Crochet When you finish the 7 Rows your Swatch DC = Double Crochet should be 4 inches wide by 4 inches in height. SS = Slip Stitch FSC = Foundation Single Crochet (YouTube video here.) LDC = Long Double Crochet (YouTube has GREAT instructional videos!) DC2TOG = Double Crochet 2 Together (click on YouTube for instructions) Beg Shell = Ch 3, DC, ch 1, 2 DC all in the same stitch Shell = 2 DC, ch 1, 2 DC all in same stitch ***Drop Stitch = DS (YouTube has a video here.)
Notes: Hat and Cowl are worked in the Round. Slip stitch into the 1st stitch, the chain space or stitch specified. Ch 3 does count as a DC Shells made create the Heart This hat and cowl are Reversible and can be worn either way. There will be a Gap between Hearts on R3. *** If you do NOT want them to be Reversible, you can use the Drop Stitch technique
Hat–Child Size:
When making slip knot leave a 3” tail for sewing FSC row closed.
R1: With MC FSC 63. S s in top of ch 3 to join. (63 FSC)
R2: ch 3, dc in each st around. (63 DC) With a Tapestry Needle sew the FSC row closed.
Change to CC to make Shells/Hearts or Use the Drop Stitch
R3: Attach Hot Pink in top of ch 3. [Ch 3, dc, ch 1, 2 dc all in same stitch. (Beg Shell) made] ch 2, skip 6 st, 2 dc, ch 1. 2 dc all in the same stitch. (Shell made). *Ch 2, skip 6 st, Shell in next st.* Repeat from * to * 7 more times. Ch 2 and ss in top of ch 3 of Beg Shell. (9 Shells)
Change to MC or Use the Drop Stitch
R4: ss in ch 1 sp of Beg Shell, ch 1, sc in same st., *ch 2, skip 2 dc from previous row, 1 ldc in next 2 st of previous Row, ch 2, sc in ch 1 space of next Shell.* Repeat from * to * 7 more times. Ss in sc to join.
R5: ch 3, dc in each st around. (63 DC)
Change to CC to make Shells/Hearts or Use the Drop Stitch
R6-R14: Repeat R3-R5 ending with R4 and Light Pink Yarn.
R15-R17: ch 3, dc2tog around. Ss in top of ch 3 to join.
Fasten off. Leave a long piece of yarn and weave R16 closed. Use Tapestry Needle to weave in ends.
Cowl–Child Size:
When making slip knot leave a 3” tail for sewing FSC row closed.
R1: With MC and H Hook FSC 84. Ss in top of ch 3 to join. (84 FSC)
R2: ch 3, dc in each st around. (84 DC) With a Tapestry Needle sew the FDC row closed.
Change to CC to make Shells/Hearts or Use the DS
R3: Attach CC in top of ch 3. [Ch 3, dc, ch 1, 2 dc all in same stitch. (Beg Shell) made] ch 2, skip 6 st, 2 dc, ch 1. 2 dc all in the same stitch. (Shell made). *Ch 2, skip 6 st, Shell in next st.* Repeat from * to * 10 more times. Ch 2 and ss in top of ch 3 of Beg Shell. (12 Shells)
Change to MC or Use the DS
R4: ss in ch 1 sp of Beg Shell, ch 1, sc in same st., *ch 2, skip 2 dc from previous row, 1 ldc in next 2 st of previous row, ch 2, sc in ch 1 space of next Shell.* Repeat from * to * 10 more times. Ss in sc to join. (12 Shells)
R5: ch 3, dc in each st around. (84 DC)
Change to CC to make Shells/Hearts or Use the DS
R6-R17: Repeat R3-R5 ending with R5 and MC.
R18: ch 1, sc in same st and each st around, ss in 1st sc to join. (84 sc)
Fasten off.
Use Tapestry Needle to weave in ends.
