Have you ever done something for someone else that made you feel really good? Or because you knew it would help make a little girl feel really special?
Here’s a little back story about how I got involved with Wigs for Kids.
I was loosing my hair a few years ago. I was SO upset and going crazy. I didn’t want to go anywhere, have anyone see me, I was so self conscious. Eventually, I found out it was one of my medications. I stopped taking it, got help from my adopted daughter, Vicki, and slowly my hair started growing back.
After about a year, I went to a beauty salon to get my hair leveled out and I saw a sign advertisement for Wigs for Kids. I asked the beautician what that was about and she gave me the details.
My experience was so traumatic that I wanted to do something to help because I could just imagine how a little girl losing her hair would feel. After I seen the advertisement I let my hair grow out, and when it got long enough, I donated it to Wigs for Kids. When I sent my hair to them, I asked it there was any way to see how my donation helped. I got to see a picture of a little girl who got just a little of my hair helped out! That was one of the best feelings ever! I just donated my hair again about a year ago. So you can see why this cause is very close to my heart
I joined Melanie Jane of Simply Melanie Jane in her Crochet Business Hop for Charity because I wanted to do more to help little girls feel special. Melanie Jane has joined with 12 other crochet designers to raise money for the Wigs for Kids organization. Her goal is to raise $1,800 to support this organization.
Melanie’s hop is a little different from most blog hops. Each day she is spotlighting a crochet designer, sharing what it is that the do and letting you know how they are helping raise money for the drive. The spotlighted designers are offering discounts and donating part of the proceeds to the Wigs for Kids charity drive.

The Seed Stitch Head Scarf crochet pattern used the Seed Stitch. The Seed Stitch uses the basic stitches, single crochet and double crochet. Also in the crochet pattern you will find instructions on how you can customize this to meet your style, size, and color. You can customize it to fit babies, toddlers, tweens, teens and all adult sizes.
Materials: US G Hook/4 mm MC 150 yds of #3/DK Weight Yarn CC 150 yds of #3/DK Weight Yarn Tapestry Needle Gauge: US G Hook/4 mm 16 st x 16 rows = 4” Size: 4” wide x 56” long

In this post I want to share with you the Unisex Herringbone Set Free Crochet Pattern. It is hard to find crochet patterns that are just for boys and men so I found a perfect crochet stitch that creates a unique design that can be used for men and women, the Herringbone Half Double Crochet.

In the Herringbone Crochet Set you will find crochet patterns for a Beanie and a Cowl. You will also find 3 sizes to choose from: Teen, Small & Large Adult. The good thing about this crochet pattern is that it can be customized to fit your style, size, and color! The stitch count is a multiple of 6, so it you want to make a smaller or larger size, you can use the multiple of 6.
As I stated above, the Unisex Herringbone Set Free Crochet Pattern is a great crochet pattern boys, men, and women. My husband and I modeled the set, so as you can see it fits men and women. You will find some wonderful versions from my testers of the set at the bottom of this post.
Materials Needed: US Hook I/5.5 mm 100-300 yards of #4 Worsted Weight Yarn Scissors Tapestry Needle
Gauge: US Hook I/5.5 mm
8 HHDC x 6 Rows = 2 inch
Notes: Ch 1 does not count as a stitch
Gauge Swatch: R1: Ch 9, sc in 2nd st and sc in each st across. Ch1 R2: Turn. HHDC in each st across. Ch 1 R3-6: Repeat R2
Abbreviations: CH = Chain Sl St = Slip Stitch SC = Single Crochet BLO = Back Loop Only HHDC = Herringbone Half Double Crochet SC BLO = Single Crochet in Back Loop Only HDC2TOG = Half Double Crochet 2 Together FHDC = Foundation Half Double Crochet
Special Stitches:
To make the HHDC stitch: 1. Yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook) 2. Pull first loop straight through the second (similar to a slip stitch) 3. Yarn over, pull through two remaining loops on hook.
Special Notes: The stitch count is a multiple of 6 if you need a smaller or larger size. Pattern written for: Teen, Sm Adult, Lg Adult Be sure to count your stitches once and awhile. It is important once you start the decreasing to have the right stitch count.

Leave a long tail of 6-10 inches for weaving the top of the hat closed. You will weave the top of the Beanie closed by using your Tapestry Needle.
You will go into the 2 loops created by the dc using the long tail you have left. You will go back and forth weaving the long tail between the 2 loops until you reach the end.
At the end you will pull the long tail tight, closing the top of the Beanie. Pull tight and go into the 1st st and create a knot, tying off the long tail.

Repeat R4 until the scarf measures 44” ( 56”, 68”) inches or until your desired length. If you would like to leave it as a Scarf, fasten off and weave in the ends. For the Cowl, do not fasten off, move to the closing of the cowl.
Closing the Cowl
R1: Ch 1 and place HDC in each st across. 14 (16, 18)
Join Ends: Holding both ends together without twisting, sl st together through blo loop of the previous row and foundation row.

There is something really exciting about selling in person. You get to meet your customers face to face and find out exactly what they like about your products. Also, you can answer all the questions they have and persuade them to buy something.
However, if you are new to selling at a craft show and you have no idea how to go about it, we are about to show you how with these simple steps.

Check out the competition
First, take a look at the trade shows, feel their vibe, and get an idea of what people do and what booths are getting the most traffic. If you already have something to sell, survey your specific niche and see how they compare.
Visit as many shows as possible and note these; The type of products on sale. Will your product fit in or stand out? The quality of the products. Do you offer the same, poor or better quality than what’s available? The price of the products. How have you priced yourself?
Boost your business knowledge
If you want to run a profitable business, an MBA degree can prepare you for success and teach you skills in operations management, marketing, communication, and more. Online programs allow you to continue to earn as you learn so you can still manage your business responsibilities.
Find the right show for your product
If you are selling food at a jewelry or art show, you will not move anything since that’s not your audience. Being at the right show is important because buyers are coming specifically for your products.
Search by joining communities within your area, search for websites online, and discover the right audience to suit what you are selling.
Decide your budget
Ensure you evaluate how much you might spend, then decide on how to price your product. In most cases, you may get people trying to bargain, so ensure that you account for this in your budgeting to avoid losses.
However, if it is your first show, you might not be sure of what to expect. Try and get someone to share a booth with or seek advice from experienced sellers in your industry. Also, ensure that you’re ready for the tax season by keeping accurate sales records.
Brand your booth
Seeing that you already have products ready for market means that you have an established brand. Therefore, how you present yourself is important. Take your time and think about the message you are about to convey to your buyers.
Your booth must be perfect for making a good first impression. Are your products hand-made or ethically sourced? This is a piece of important information that your clients should know. Also, have business cards printed for clients who’ll be interested in more business.
Think about the bigger picture
Your full efforts may go in to ensure that the day runs smoothly, but it is also a great opportunity to take advantage of future-making efforts. During this time, talk to your customers and ask them to leave their email addresses so that you can send updates, offers, and new products or new music.
However, if you are struggling to get people to leave their contact details, think about running a giveaway, so they have a reason to leave you their email. Take photos of your booth, products and consenting customers for use on your social media pages.
Offer customized merchandise
There is a wide range of hand-crafted merchandise or vintage collectibles that sell very well at craft shows. But many buyers show interest in products that can be customized with a personalized name, message or initial.
Most trade show enthusiasts show interest in special occasion gifts. Hence, shows are a great space for potential customers looking for a perfect gift for loved ones.
Selling at a crafts show as a first-timer can be a bit of a hustle. For a successful experience, research, seek advice and make sure you are well prepared before launching your products. Also, ensure that at the end of the day you get permanent clients from the show.

(12 st) R3-R8: Repeat R2 Abbreviations/Stitches Used: ch = chain sl st = slip stitch fdc = foundation double crochet rep = repeat rem = remaining SM = stitch marker
Special Stitches: Herringbone Double Crochet: 1. yarn over, insert hook into the next stitch and pull up a loop (3 loops on hook) 2. pull first loop straight through the second (similar to a slip stitch) 3. yarn over, pull through 1 loop again. (2 loops on hook) 4. yarn over and pull through both loops.
Notes: * I used 2 strands of yarn held together to create a thicker tool belt. * the stitch count is a multiple of 6 if you want to customize the size of your tool belt. * there are 2 options to choose from in creating the waist ties. * ch 1 does not count as a st. * ch 3 counts as the 1st dc. * alt ch 2 counts as the 1st dc. * be sure to count your stitches once and awhile.

Customizing:
The tool belt can be crocheted for anyone. Below you will find the gauge broken down into inches for that perfect fit.
Step 1: Measure the front side of the waist from 1 hip to the other. This will be your main tool belt piece.
Step 2: Using your measurements from Step 1, divide the amount of stitches needed in half, this will give you your waist tie measurements.
**If you would like to make the waist ties longer, be sure to add the amount of stitches needed before you begin crocheting the tool belt**
Step 3: For the height of the tool belt, measure from the hips down to mid-thigh. This will decide the number of rows you add before the waist ties are added.
Step 4: Use the gauge below to choose the number of rows needed to meet the tool belt height.
Step 5: Choose which option of the tool belt you would like to make and move on to the pattern below. Again, Option 1 adds waist ties right to the tool belt and Option 2 allows you to make them separately.
Gauge: 3 st x 2 rows = 1” 6 st x 4 rows = 2” 9 st x 6 rows = 3” 12 st x 8 rows = 4 “

Tool Belt Crochet Pattern: There are 2 options on how to make the tool belt. Option 1 has the waist ties attached right to the tool belt. Option 2 has instructions for separate waist ties.
Option 1 Tool Belt with Waist Ties: **Video Tutorial for adding the fdc row at ten end of the row here**
NOTE: If you would like longer waist ties this is where you would need to do it. See Customizing above.
fdc 45 and lay aside, leaving a short tail of yarn to attach to the tool belt. (this is your 2nd waist tie that will be added on at R18). Fasten off.
Alternative: ch 45, leaving a small tail of yarn to attach to the tool belt. Fasten off.
R1: fdc 60 turn (60 dc) Alternative: ch 63, hbdc in the 4th ch from hook and each rem st across. turn (60 hbdc)
R2: alt ch 3 (or ch 3), hbdc in the next st and each rem st across. turn (60 st) R3-R16: Repeat R2 do not turn after R16

R18: alt ch 3 (or ch 3), hbdc in each rem st until the end of the row. attach the fdc you crocheted earlier by hbdc in the 1st st and each rem st across. (150 st)
Use the short tail of yarn and attach it to the tool belt.
Alternative: hbdc in 4th ch from hook and each rem st until the end of the row. attach the ch you crocheted earlier by hbdc in 1st st and each rem st across.
Use the short tail of yarn and attach it to the tool belt.
R1: fdc 60 turn (60 dc) Alternative: ch 63, dc in the 4th ch from hook and each rem st across. turn (60 dc)
R2: alt ch 3 (or ch 3), hbdc in the next st and each rem st across. turn (60 st)
R3-R18: Repeat R2
Waist Ties: Make 2 NOTE: If you would like longer waist ties this is where you would need to do it. See Customizing above.
Leave a long tail of yarn for attaching the waist tie to the tool belt.
R1: fdc 45 turn (45 st) Alternative: ch 48, dc in the 4th ch from hook and each rem st across. turn (45 st) R2: alt ch 3 (or ch 3) and hbdc in each rem st across. (45 st)
If you did the alternative waist tie: R3: turn, ch 1, sc in same st and each rem st across. (45 st)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Repeat R1 & R2 for 2nd waist tie. Waist Tie Assembly:
Step 1: Place waist tie and tool belt RS up.
Step 2: Line up rows 1 & 2 on the side of the tool belt and waist ties to both sides of R1 of the tool belt. Step 3: Sew waist tie to tool belt.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Repeat Steps 1-3 on the other side of the tool belt. **************************************************** Pocket:
R1: fdc 42 turn (42 dc) Alternative: ch 45, dc in 4th ch from hook and each rem st across. (42 dc) R2: alt ch 3 (or ch 3) and hbdc in each rem st across. (42 st) R3-R8: Repeat R2 Leave a long tail of yarn for attaching 3 sides of the pocket to the tool belt. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Hammer Holder: Leaving a small tail of yarn for attaching the hammer holder to the tool belt. R1: fdc 12 turn (12 dc) Alternative: ch 15, dc in 4th ch from hook and each rem st across. (12 dc) R2: alt ch 2 (or ch 3), hbdc in each rem st across. (12 st) R3: Repeat R2 R4: ch 1, sc in same st and each rem st across. (12 st) Leave a small tail of yarn for attaching the hammer holder to the tool belt. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Hammer Holder & Pocket Assembly: Step 1: Measure 1” from the side of the tool belt and place a SM on one side of the hammer holder. Rep this for the other side of the hammer holder. Step 2: Using your small tail of yarn, attach the 2 sides of the hammer holder to the tool belt.
Fasten off and weave in ends. ****************************************************
Pocket Step 1: Measure 2” from the Hammer Holder and place your pocket where you would like to place it.
Step 2:
Place SM on both sides of where you would like to attach the pocket to the tool belt. Step 3: Using your long tail of yarn, sew 3 sides of the pocket onto the tool belt, leaving the top of the pocket open. **Note: you can sew the middle of the pocket to the tool belt to create 2 pockets instead of 1 big one** Fasten off and weave in ends.
