Information Needed

I used 2 colors of Caron One Pound 100% Acrylic Yarn.  (16 oz/453.6 g) (812 yds/742 m)

Advanced Beginner 

US Terminology

Materials:
US H or 5mm Crochet Hook
MC = 60-80 yds #4 ply Worsted/Aran Weight Yarn
CC = 50-70 yds of #4 ply Worsted/Aran Weight Yarn

Abbreviations/Stitches Used:
ch = chain
st = stitch(es)
sl st = slip stitch
rep = repeat
blo = back loop only
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
dc2tog = double crochet 2 together
alt ch 2 = alternate chain 2
YO = Yarn Over
MC = Main Color
CC = Contrasting Color

Notes:
ch 2 counts as a hdc
ch 3 counts as a dc
alt ch 2 counts as a st
the hat brim is worked flat
the hat body is worked the round
If you do not meet Gauge try going up or down a hook size
If you are using 2 colors, it is best to use the same thicknesses for each color
Below there are 2 sizes to choose from, Child Size and Adult

Beg Shell = (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) all in same sp
Shell = (3 dc, ch 1, 3 dc) all in same sp

Double Crochet 2 Together – dc2tog

  • YO, insert hook into specified st
  • YO, pull up a loop
  • YO, pull through 2 loops on hook (2 loops on hook)
  • YO, insert hook into next st, YO, pull up a loop (4 loops on hook)
  • YO, pull through 2 loops on hook. (3 loops on hook)
  • YO, pull through all 3 loops

Special Note:
The pattern calls for using the Carrying Yarn Method.  This allows you to carry your MC and CC up the rows without fastening off.

BRIM

Note:  you can customize your Brim by repeating R2 until you meet your head’s circumference.

Using MC

R1: ch 8 (14) hdc into the 3rd ch from hook, hdc across.  turn (6, 12 hdc)

R2: alt ch 2 or ch 2, hdc in blo of next 4 (10, 10) st, hdc in last st. turn (6, 12 hdc)

R3-39 (48):  rep R2

Closing Brim  

Step 1:
hold both ends together without twisting, sl st blo in each st across, going through both last row work and starting row.  

Step 2:
turn slightly to start working across the side of the Brim

Step 3:
alt ch 2 or ch 2, hdc in each st around.  sl st in 1st st to join.  (39, 48 hdc)

Do not fasten off.  This is where you will start the Carrying Colors Method.

 Body

Note:  you can customize the height of your hat be adding or subtracting rows

R1:  using your CC, attach yarn with a sl st in same sp as join, Beg Shell in same st, sk 2 sts, *Shell in next st, sk 2 sts.  rep from * around.  sl st in top of ch 3, sl st in next 2 dc, insert hook into ch-1 sp, Carry Up your MC  (13, 16 Shells) (78, 96 dc)

I used Red Heart Super Saver 100% Acrylic Yarn.  (7 oz/198 g) (364 yds/333 m)
Materials:
120-190 yds of #4 ply Worsted/Aran Weight Yarn
US I or 5.5mm Crochet Hook
Tapestry Needle
Scissors

Abbreviations/Stitches Used:
ch = chain
st = stitch
sk = skip
rep = repeat
hdc = half double crochet
dc = double crochet
trc = triple crochet
fptrc = front post triple crochet
bptrc = back post triple crochet
alt ch 2 = alternative chain 2 or alternative starting chain
RS = Right Side
WS = Wrong Side

Notes:
ch 4 counts as a trc.
alt ch 2 counts as a hdc.
The stitch count for the child size is a multiple of 6+2.
The stitch count for the adult sizes is a multiple of 8+2.

Winter is the perfect time of year to crochet Hats, Scarves and Gloves.  When the cold weather hits, you want to wear something that keeps warm and toasty.  This is why I am sharing with you one of my most popular crochet patterns, the Simplicity Set FREE Crochet Pattern.

The Simplicity Set FREE Crochet Pattern is a great Unisex crochet pattern that can be made for both Men and Women.

In the Simplicity Set you will find crochet patterns for a matching Hat, Scarf and Fingerless Gloves.  Also inside the Simplicity Set Crochet Pattern you will find sizes for Teens, Small & Large Adults.

Information about the Simplicity Set Crochet Pattern

Materials:
US H or 5 mm Crochet Hook
250-500 yards of #4 Worsted/Aran Weight Yarn
Scissors

Abbreviations:
ch = chain
sl st = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet
rem = remaining
rep = repeat
sp = space

Notes:
ch 3 does count as a dc
the stitch count is a multiple of 4
Pattern written for: Teen, Small adult, Large adult consecutively

Gauge:
US H or 5 mm Crochet Hook
14 dc x 8 rows = 4″

R1:  ch 56 (64, 72) oin in the 1st ch, creating a circle, being careful not to twist the chain.  ch 3 and dc in each remaining st around.  56 (64, 72) dc

R2ch 3 and dc in each rem st around.  sl st in 1st st to join.  turn 56 (64, 72) dc

R3-R4ch 3 and dc in each remaining st around.  sl st in 1st st to join.  Turn 56 (64, 72) dc

R5ch 3 and dc in each remaining st around.  sl st in 1st st to join.  Turn 56 (64, 72) dc

Rep R5 until the hat measures 6.5”  ( 7.5”, 8”)   Do NOT fasten off.

Once you have met the inches required for your size, leave a long tail of 4-6 inches and weave the top of the hat closed.

Simplicity Scarf FREE Crochet Pattern 

R1ch 21 (25, 29) Turn

R2ch 3 and dc in each remaining st across.  turn 21 (25, 29) dc

rep R2 until the scarf measures 44” (56”, 68”) long  or until your desired length.

Fasten off and weave in your ends.

First Glove

R1ch 20, 24 or 28, join in the 1st ch, creating a circle, being careful not to twist the chain.  alt ch 2 or ch 3 and dc in each remaining st around.  sl st in 1st st to join.  turn 20 (24, 28) 

R2-R8: ch 3 and dc in each rem st around.  sl st in 1st st to join.  turn 20 (24, 28) dc

**If you would like a longer glove body, add more dc rounds here**

Thumb Shaping

R9ch 3, 2 dc in next 6 (8, 10) st and dc in each rem st around.  sl st in 1st st to join.  turn 26 (32, 38) st

R10-R11:  ch 3 and dc in each remaining st around.  sl st in 1st st to join.  turn 26 (32, 38) st

Thumb Decrease

R12-R14:  ch 3, dc in the next 15 (19, 23) st, skip the next 7 (8, 9) st, dc in the rem st around.  sl st in 1st st to join. turn 20 (24, 28) st

R15:  ch 1, sc in same sp and each rem st around.  sl st in 1st st to join.  20 (24, 28) sc

Fasten off.  Weave in ends.

R9ch 3, dc in next 15 (17, 19) st, 2 dc in each rem st around.  sl st in 1st st to join.  turn 26 (32, 38) dc

R10-R11:  ch 3, dc in each rem st around.  sl st in 1st st to join.  turn 26 (32, 38) dc

Thumb Decreases

R12:  ch 3, skip the next 7 (8, 9) st, dc in each rem st around.  sl st in 1st st to join.  turn 20 (24, 28) dc

R13-R14:  ch 3, dc in each rem st around.  sl st in 1st st to join.  turn 20 (24, 28)) dc

R15
:  ch 1, sc in same sp, sc in each rem st around.  sl st in 1st to join.  20 (24, 28) sc

Fasten off.  Weave in ends.
